FYI@IMS Evangeline Fitzpatrick Demo and Artist Talk

 The Event

On March 2nd Visualarts hosted faux finish artist, Evangeline Fitzpatrick, for an informative artist talk and demonstration held in the gallery for IMS designers, outside designers and interested clients.  Everyone who attended loved seeing a glimpse into her creative process and we would like to thank Evangeline for sharing with us her artwork and expertise.

About the artist

Evangeline Fitzpatrick was born in New York City in 1969. She currently lives in Alameda, CA. Stymied by her brother’s immense talent for portraiture, she put her creative drive on hold until much later, when she determined that not all art is lifelike portraits. Through a friend’s prompting she started painting swaths of solitary color, allowing the paint to determine the highlights and lowlights. She still follows the paint when creating light and dark paths.
Under the tutelage of Dickson Schneider, Evangeline has enhanced her skill and has embraced the calm and joy painting brings.
Evangeline’s interest in wood began when attempting to lighten a wood-paneled room with white paint. The paint melted into the paneling leaving behind a white-washed effect, enhancing the wood’s grain and character.
Using acrylic paints, her passion for detail defines her creative path. Pieces of plywood tell stories of movement and color. Worn and tired planks work together to create a new history and journey. The wood pieces she paints are her poetry.
Evangeline’s relationship with detail extends to combining fabric pieces that enrich the colors and subject matter of one another. The result of which builds a refreshing new story.
