Greenery With Envy

Each year Pantone comes out with the color of the year, this year’s color is bursting forth like spring shoots is aptly called Greenery (#15-0343). I love this year’s color it is bright, punchy, happy and and above all it's FRESH and really feels much overdue. Its a bold rich yellow green and for me it is a completely opposite and refreshing welcome change to the overdone red accents of the past few years.

I have always been attracted to green, in fact it was my first word! I would look at green leaves, the way the sunlight would catch them and glint of the surface and how the color glowed when the sun poured through them on the trees. I have always loved that semi-translucent quality. When i was 2 my father made me a rocking horse and it had a tail of green white and blue yarn and of course i named him Green. On any usual day there is about a 50% chance of finding me wearing green.

My forecast?

I think people will embrace this gorgeous color and see it has huge potential to bring in the freshness of the garden indoors to brighten and punch up a space.

Ideas for outside

Using this great color on a front door can brighten up a boring neutral space and not clash with your outdoor greenery but instead becomes an extension of it.

Adding accent planters to your patio garden or punching up your furniture with this sunny green can really enhance your outdoor space.

Ideas for inside

If you are not sure you want to be surrounded by the outdoors but would enjoy a punch of color inside, use it to liven up a room by choosing accessories such as vases, lamps and pillows.

Paint the floor in your entryway or mudroom as

Go bold with a new couch or a great textured accent chair combining an additional natural element.

I have added Greenery to my home here in Honolulu, Hawaii.

I mixed greenery in my accessories, the Richard Grachalla raku vase mixed with a soft green Ernest Miller vase and Ocean blue and white patterned lamp.


My bedroom inspired by Hawaii, I used Greenery in the bedding and placed and Calvin DeRuyter original watercolor and a Susan Piazza 3-D clay piece on my wall.

Summer Art Fair Artists of Interest

As summer closes and we are ushered into Autumn, we wanted to reflect on a few Artists of interest that we discovered on our travels to local and nationally known art fairs this 2016 Season. There are so many amazing artists creating diverse works of art and wanted to highlight just a few of our favorites in this end of season blog post.

John Schneider

"It is a pleasure to create and make! When my work communicates something greater than the handling of medium, the infusion of color, or extending our sense of aesthetics, the results become noteworthy. It is all about color, shape, and peacefulness. I enjoy wide open, calm locations and shapes to infuse color creating a moment of place and time worth revisiting. My goal is for the viewer to continue to return to my work with insightful reflection and enjoyment." - John Schneider

John is a Midwestern regional Landscape painter often painting the nostalgia of the small rural farming communities and the lovely soft dreamlike landscapes that these old barns and covered bridges inhabit. John is an award winning painter and can often be seen at many summer art fairs in the Midwestern region.

Liz Nichtberger

"My creative process begins with canvas. I use non-traditional artistic techniques and tools to evoke emotions and moods on canvas or glass. The paint is poured, pushed, brushed, texturized, and cajoled to open up abstract designs, creating widely ranging images, from vistas in far distant space to small still life. I use acrylic paint, oil sticks, colored pencils, charcoal, paper, fiber, glass and finish with epoxy resin to create a shimmering surface effect. I hope you enjoy my work." - Liz Nichtberger

A nationally known artist, Liz's pieces are stunning highly-textured creations with a very saturated contemporary palette that engage the viewer. She spends much of her summers traveling around the larger Art fairs and in the off season devotes her time to creating new works. Her work have appeared in publications as well as corporate and private collections.

Jeff Sorensen

"Raw. Sharp. Dangerous. Glass is the prose of the soul, brought to life by the breath of its creator. Each piece has its own story, its own charm, its own identity. Whether it is an elegant wave, a hard edge, or a smooth sphere, every piece is hand-blown to challenge preconceptions, inspire the future, and instill a sense of place.

I strive to blend the techniques of the masters, while testing my physical stamina, in new and exciting ways. Blowing glass requires strength and knowledge; strength to not allow the piece to rest and the knowledge to recognize when to beg it to stop. With my glass, I offer beauty. I offer context. I offer a reminder of what it is to be human.

I am a Minneapolis glassblower with more than 15 years of training and practice. Pulling techniques from all over the world, my roots can be found in the Swedish style of glass blowing. Using a style based on high heat and a quick pace, it is my goal to capture the human experience." - Jeff Sorensen

Sorensen's pieces are very diverse in style and content, he creates art glass that is conventional, smooth and utilitarian: beautifully crafted vases and chargers. However It is his sculptural pieces that are not only breaking apart of the conventional and traditional idea of glassblowing that viewers have always held, but expanding on and combining glass working techniques in very exciting way, creating intricately detailed and intriguing sculptural work.
